I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who came out to the first Break the Stigma Trail Races this morning out in Farmington, MN.
The volunteers, they are the reason of why events happen.
The Sponsors, their support allows us to keep on going on strong.
The runners, they made it happen.
First and most I want to apologize to every one for some of the problems that we had with the marking of the route. There was some confusion and we are going to learn from this. I will take full responsibility for this issue.
The one thing that I learned from today was that the people who came to this event today, weren’t there to compete against each other, or perhaps some were. But I could see that they were there to support a cause important to them, and so many of us. There was an atmosphere of celebration and to me it translates in celebrating life, triumphs. Knowing that our struggles are for real and that we are not along on this journey.
The day could had not been more beautiful for a run out in the woods and for people to be out there in a brand new park.
I was able to talk to a few people today at the event. Their kind words meant the world to me.
There was this older lady who wanted to know if I was the guy who ran across the State of Minnesota (or as she said walked). She was so happy to meet me and give me a big thank you for doing what I did.
Then there was another mother who came up to me and told me about losing her son to suicide and put her hand on my chest and told me that I am a hero for opening up the conversation on mental illness (I loved her accent).
There was another person who told me about her daughter struggles with mental illness and addiction. She also wanted to know how to get involved with the project, she want to help making a difference as well.
I can go on and on with stories like these ones. To me it never, ever gets old. I wish I could spend time talking to all of you and give you the time that you all deserve, as so many of you have given your time and support to BSP.
The truth is that I was, and continue to be touched by the support of so many of you and validating the reason why Break the Stigma should continue on.
The one question that many asked today was about the merchandise and how to buy some of the amazing gear that we have to offer. We did have some hats and we sold them out.
If you wish to support us by purchasing our merchandise, which it is not only gives us some “revenue,” but also allow us to open up the conversation on mental health.
