Please welcome our new official sponsor and partner in the effort of defeating the stigma that surrounds mental illnesses, Gear West Ski & Run and Gear West Alpine.
Gear West is located just 20 minutes west of Minneapolis in beautiful Long Lake, MN.
Gear West is a specialty sports campus that specializes in cross country
skiing, alpine, running, paddle sports, ski service and wellness.
Jan Guenther, owner, has been an open supporter of our mission and goals
from the day we met in the Spring of 2015.
We will be working together to bring more awareness through education. We
plan to have panels every so often at the store and bring professionals to
talk about how to overcome mental illnesses, not just in athletes, but
anyone in need of help and hope.
Stay tuned as we are working on our first panel to take place in the month

Dylan Harlan Engen
01/27/02 – 09/06/16
Funny and caring, Dylan loved the outdoors and anything to do with hunting and fishing. He was playful and loved animals. He is missed and loved very much by his family and friends.
Breanna and Julio will be running the Stagecoach Line 100 mile race in Flagstaff, AZ tomorrow Saturday 9/24th. We are dedicating this race to honor Dylan and his life.
He impacted so many of us.
We will continue our effort to bring suicide prevention awareness through education.
Please join in us in the fight against Stigma – let’s make ok to talk about it!

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in our nation and in Wisconsin. Every 12 minutes, an American takes their own life. And sadly, many of those Americans are men and women who have served in our military. Proceeds raised this year will help pay for a service dog for a local veteran with PTSD.
Proceeds raised in past events have funded suicide awareness and prevention training (QPR) in local schools and brought nationally known speakers on depression and suicide to our community. They have also provided support to the St. Croix County Suicide Prevention Task Force and the St. Croix Valley Restorative Justice Program.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
We at Defeat the Stigma Project are very passionate about this topic.
We see, hear, and some of us have experienced it first hand, the pain of losing a loved one to suicide.
In the next 30 days we will continue to share articles that would help us all educate ourselves on the topic.
We would love to get stories, articles anything to help us bring awareness during this month.
